Mentoring

Teaching yoga is an art that demands technical precision in a range of skills as well as creativity and spontaneity. These are skills that must be cultivated and developed in the context of the classroom over time, usually well after a teacher training has ended.

As a long-time teacher trainer, I have mentored dozens of teachers in refining their fluency in communicating the technology of yoga while offering the empowered, authentic voice of their own hearts.

Private Mentoring

For personalized feedback on your teaching, I am available to review a video of your class or attend a live class (schedule and location permitting). I will write up detailed notes on the class and give you an hour of constructive feedback on where you’re at in your teaching, as well as practices you can do to strengthen particular teaching skills. As part of this mentoring process, I will also review one class plan in the month after our initial meeting to support you in incoroprating this feedback, and I will be available to answer any related questions you might have.

Cost: $250 per video

Semi-Private Mentoring (January – May 2012)

In the first part of 2012, I will be working with a small group (maximum 6) of teachers in the New York City area who are would like to refine their teaching in the context of community. Each participant will commit to producing and submitting a video of their class for review. We’ll meet every few weeks to watch one video together. I’ll give feedback throughout (lots of pause and play) and then we will spend an hour afterward practicing teaching skills that need greater refinement. In this way, each participant will get the benefit of receiving the feedback for everyone’s videos, and we will have a format for practicing key teaching skills. Each group meeting will last 3 hours. Schedule TBD based on group’s availability.

Cost: $250 for your video review plus $30 for each 3-hour mentoring session.

2012 Online Mentoring Program for Teachers (Dates TBA)

The core of the program is built around four teleconferences, where I will offer strategies for developing particular teaching skills, present key concepts of Tantric philosophy, and answer practical questions that you have about your teaching. To support your study in between teleconferences, you will have access to:

  • An online forum where you can post questions and comments, communicate with others in the program, and receive public responses from me. In this way, the mentoring program will also support building a global community of Anusara teachers.
  • Guided self-study, including reading assignments, written homework and teaching exercises designed to support you in refining your teaching. We will review these assignments, particularly those related to theme building, during our teleconferences.
  • Teaching tools: You will have full access to the set of tools that I use in my teacher trainings, including class planning worksheets, theme development tools, photographs and explanations of hands-on adjustments, therapeutics notes, and essays on key Tantric ideas.

Teleconference Dates: TBA
